Humour me, sometimes I like to waste my time and analyze these characters …..
There is a difference between being a good person and a good friend and I think Caroline walks an extremely grey area when it comes to this.
Two significant moments from this season stand out to me, not so much for what she did but for her reasoning for it.
Getting Klaus to kill Chris - This is one of those times when I was completely on Tyler’s side. I understand that Elena was going crazy but Chris was innocent. They could have made a deal with Klaus to find some killer vampire and have Jeremy kill him yet they asked for one of his hybrids. I’m not stupid enough to think that Caroline singled Chris out but what makes me question her is the response she gave Tyler when he got pissed. She said she did it to save her friend and Tyler pointed out that Chris was his friend. We’ve never seen Caroline show remorse for this. Yes she didn’t directly kill him but the thing that stands out is that she made no apologies about it because Chris was not someone who meant anything to her. Meaning that from very early on this season they started to point out ( intentionally or not) that Caroline may not be that great of a person, however she is a great friend.
I cannot agree more. What Caroline want is keeping those she loves safe, this is her personality. I think that she is not a good person but she is so loyal to those she loves and she is growing to who she wants to be. Even now she’s realized that she is a terrible person, I think she won’t change but I like the way she is. I don’t think it is a good idea to apply human moral standards to the vampire world.
